Content is becoming more organised and selected
Content on the front page of social media sites is being curated by employees of the website to properly display what they stand for and to help users find the content they want.
Why is Content Curation an important subject to talk about?
Curation helps to make sure your content feed is not overcrowded, and this makes the experience overall better for the users. Curating your content also means that information is more accurate, and the information is easier to find.
However, curation can also lead to independent creators getting less traction due to the media site pushing up content made by large corporations such as the BBC and BT TV. This is what we are seeing currently on websites like YouTube where the bigger company is drowning out the small guy.
Advertisers are getting smarter
For example, advertisers can use AI to swap out to advert for products you are more likely to click on by using information on your previous purchases and searches. This helps to increase Traffic, brand visibility and increase sale number.
Development in Virtual Reality
Companies like Facebook believe that virtual reality is the future of social media, Facebook bought out Oculus in 2014 and in 2017 they created their own platform (Spaces) based around virtual reality which aims to connect users across platforms.
Mixed Reality may also be a good direction to go in as many people are not able to afford a virtual reality headset so enabling them to use social media without the use of virtual reality headset. Making more people use sites like Spaces and allow people to use it more frequently, such as on the go using their phones.
Live streaming/live video sharing
Recently Live video sharing has been added to Facebook and YouTube but the market is mostly dominated by Twitch a platform mostly based around streaming live video. Twitch get over 3 million people broadcasting their videos online monthly, meaning that the market for live video is getting increasingly popular.
New Social in 2019
Vero is a new up and coming social media platform in 2019 and it serves as an alternative to Instagram and it similar to it in almost everyday except it has no adds this is done as they aim for Vero to be more about social interaction and less about media and news as they believe the best social media is the one that is already between human interaction in the real world.
Another website that is being launched is Google My Business, This new social media app gives business owners the chance to connect more in depth with their customers and talk to them about their opinions and what they think could change about their business. This is all done in real time making it significantly better than the current good maps system.
One new up and coming app in 2019 is Foursquare Swarm, it is a social media app that tracks your location at all times and lets you make posts from these locations and images of what you are getting up to on your travels, it also provide information on the locations you are in.
