There are many different types of social media on the internet today. Examples being Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat...
The list goes on.
Its used every day for almost everything we do.
Here is a list of different types of social media and what they do.
Facebook - A site where users can post photos, videos, links to videos, news articles, comments etc and more recently live chat with people. You can make your posts public or private and even so restricted that only you can authorize who sees the posts.
Instagram - An app in which (like facebook) users can post videos and photos. Users can also follow, tag and private message other users. In addition to that, users can also save the videos and photos they come across.
Twitter - A site where people share small updates of their lives with people (tweets). Usually under 140 characters long. People can be tagged and also they can use hashtags too.
Snapchat - An app where users send a picture, video or chat to another person, then (by default) it disappears. When taking a photo or video, the user can sometimes change the way they look, for example they could have dogs ears and a dog nose and then when they open their mouth, a tongue pops out. Quick and easy.
Here are some stats on Instagram’s usage
"There are 50 Billion photos on instagram
80 million photos are shared every day
Instagram has clocked up 3.5 billion likes every day
Instagrams usage has doubled in the last two years"
And Snapchat...
" 71% of Snapchat users are under 34 years old.
Active Snapchatters open the app 25 times PER DAY
On average users spend 35 minutes a day on snapchat"
This just goes to show that social media has come such a long way in 18 years. We started off with the first site called Sixdegrees. basic social media. Then phones came into play

This revolutionized the whole way we communicate.
We went from posting things to telegrams then to faxes.
By the time the internet was up we were E-mailing. Then we went to instant messaging.
Since then we have advanced so far forward. Apps have given us access so many different things and all at the touch of a screen.
Wikis
Wiki is short for Wiki-Wiki which is Hawaiian for quick.
From this information, I'm assuming that its a page which can be edited quickly.
Wikipedia for example is a website which works like that. Anyone can edit a page but there are designated users who can edit and lock content.
This means that information can be added quickly and by anyone but takes a while to be verified and checked
